Thank you so much for taking the time to check out our community website and for supporting your breastfeeding employee.  The benefits for employers of breastfeeding employees include:

  • Fewer missed days because children are healthier and so mom doesn't have to take as many days off for sick kids.
  • Healthier happier moms as breastfeeding reduces cancer risks and improves mood for moms.

Breastfeeding in public is legal. (see Wisconsin statutes below)

Employers are required to give their employees breaks to allow for the expression of breast milk. - U.S. Department of Labor

Breast milk is NOT a hazardous human fluid and therefore CAN be stored in a regular refrigerator or freezer with other foods.  - OSHA, & the CDC

 

Here is the official wording of the Wisconsin Laws:

Wis. Stat. § 944.17(3)§ 944.20(2) and § 948.10(2)(b) (1995) provide that breastfeeding mothers are not in violation of criminal statutes of indecent or obscene exposure. (AB 154)

2009 Wis. Laws, Act 148 provides that a mother may breastfeed her child in any public or private location where the mother and child are otherwise authorized to be. The law specifies that in such a location, no person may prohibit a mother from breastfeeding her child, direct a mother to move to a different location to breastfeed her child, direct a mother to cover her child or breast while breastfeeding, or otherwise restrict a mother from breastfeeding her child. (2009 AB 57)
